Re: Arabic Script
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 12:10 PMThat is right, but no aleph between the ra and the qaf.
So it is رقس شرقي
The word raqs (with an aleph/long 'a') means dancer. -

Re: Arabic Script
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 8:11 PMI thought, raqasa/rakasa means dancer? Or is this another dialect? -
-
Re: Arabic Script
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 9:27 PMraqs/raks - dance (in the Arabic script it's represented with rqs, of course in their equivalemt)
raqasa/rakasa - female dancer - raqsa in writing
raqas/rakas - male dancer -raqs in writing.
whether they're written with q or k almost doesn't mather, because it's phonetic, but in my opinion q is better becase it's eqivalent looks like a q sort of anyways, and there's another k sound which can be represented by k.
as far as dialects - they are pronouned slightly differently depending on the area / dialect, for example in Egyptian the q is not pronounced, and in others different syllables are accented.

Tue, May 20, 2008 - 4:34 AMHmm, I like that smiley. Could you possibly enlarge that and post it as a picture in the album, so I can copy it for my emails? What does that say?? ; ) -

Re: Arabic Script
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 12:33 PMThis might be better. If you know how - it's not hard - add the Arabic language to your keyboard. It's actually already in your windows system, you just need to enable it. If I remember correctly you go to control panel, regional/language, then click on langauge - details, and you can add Arabic.
Then all you have to do is to switch to that language and press the J key.
The letter is the "ta" in Arabic. Looks like a happy face.
but if that's too much... how do I add to the album? which album? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Arabic Script
Wed, May 21, 2008 - 8:29 AMYeah, it is a bit much, since so far all my attempts to memorise the Arabic alphabet have failed and left me pulling my hair and stuff. ; ). To go to the album, you go to the home page of this tribe and click on the avatar or the pictures below the avatar which opens the tribe album, and then click on "upload a photo". Works the same way like the album on your profile. Thanks.
