I would say visit the ancient cities that are 3000 year old.

    Take me with you?

I considered going to study arabic there for a while. I wonder if it's still safe.

What do you think? or anyone has experience in that?

        hey pete,
i just got back and syria is definitely safe - safer than most all other middle eastern countries - the fulbright scholar i stayed with over there (he's a syrian history/politics expert) tells me syria has never had any violence towards tourists. nice to hear.
i have to say, syrians were some of the most sincere people i've met, and it was an absolute pleasure to spend two weeks there.
        love,
