I watched the Iranian film "Leila" last evening. It's absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I rented it from Blockbuster.

Warning: Keep a box of Kleenex nearby.

One of my friends just showed me copticweb. Lots of Egyptian movies on that site, both classic and modern.

I heart Leila! That movie even got me through a relationship with a betrothed man. After he saw the film, he didn't marry me, but at least he saw the light and escaped his family's plan for him. That was my good deed for this year.

Netflix's Middle Eastern section is mainly Israeli, but there are some Arabic and Farsi films in there. Most of them are documentaries and dramas, but any bit helps.

The last one I saw was something like Zaman (?), Man of the Reeds. I'm not sure about the whole title, but the movie was beautiful. Like with Leila, keep a box of tissues handy.

Another good one from Netflix was the Emigrant, a tribute to the story of Joseph. It's kinda corny on the religious themes, but it's still a cool movie.

On Netflix, a lot of movies in MidEast languages are hidden in other sections depending on who produced them (French, Spanish, etc.) You have to dig, but you will always come through with something good.

Is there a way that you can request movies on Netflix?

I too have searched around and been disappointed by how few Arabic ones there are. If you browse the "Middle Eastern" genre, it looks like 60% Israeli, 30% Irani, and 10% other. I know there are heaps of Arabic films out there, since I see them on the satellie TV, but there are hardly any on Netflix.

I'll look for the Man of the Reeds one - thanks!
